Does this bother anyone as much as it bothers me?

Question

Does this bother anyone as much as it bothers me?
Okay, so I answered this question about enjoying reading and being a bookworm, and I am an avid reader and a bookworm, but I read a lot of classic literature and anything that is really wholesome and well written. A lot of people said that they were bookworms because they had read the whole Twilight series wow books! and they are quothugequot books. This gets on my last nerve!! Just because you read Twilight doesnt automatically classify you as an expert literary analyzer. I knew this girl who hated books and then she read Twilight and now she wants to start writing a story about vampires. I have been reading religiously since I was like and have wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember! Does this bother you?? It annoys me to death!! And what annoys me even more is how people are blinded to how utterly horrible Twilight is and the way its written! And if you are a Twilight fan, please dont come whining about how mean I am, because I am merely asking for an opinion. What do you think??

Answer

Sure, teenagers who are captivated by Twilight should go out and read other books, using their interest in Twilight as a springboard, but saying theyre not qualified to attempt to write fiction or say they enjoy reading because of it is a little elitist. brbrI read Twilight, but Im not a big fan by any means. They were cute, if not wholly unbelievable in many places, and Meyers editor should have definitely been more heavyhanded with her, but they arent the worst thing out there. And hey, if theyre getting people to read, why not?brbrWhats dangerous is those girls who suddenly claim to be in love with Edward or Jacob and dont seem to understand the line between fiction and reality. Bella is essentially in an emotionally abusive and controlling relationship with Edward, and I think Robert Pattinson got it right when he said Stephenie Meyer wrote a book about herself as a teenager and her fantasies. Which is a little disturbing, really, if you think about it.brbrThat being said let bygones be bygones, and if you really want to be a writer, then youd be much better off spending your time actually writing and working at your craft than letting little things like this bother you. If your status as a quotbookwormquot is something youre proud of, theres no need to cut others down for not being as wellread as you are. Some of this sounds like insecurity, which is understandable, given your likely age. Just let them enjoy themselves, and I guarantee you that youll be happier with you who are and what you do as well.
