Question
Do I have a good voice?
My life goal is to be an actress on Broadway. Ive been dancing for years and taking acting lessons for a little over but Ive never had a chance to take singing lessons and I dont have very much time with everything Im currently doing plus they can be very expensive. I have uploaded a few videos to YouTube so if you could take a listen and let me know what you think that would be great! Constructive criticism would be very much appreciated as well as any advice or exercises I could do to make myself better. If youre talking about a specific video Id really appreciate it if you could just name them so I know what youre talking about. Ive also been told that I can be very nasily but I was wondering how I would be able to stop myself from doing that. Thanks so much!
Answer
Hi Lindsay well for starters, it is very good that you have ambitions and aspirations in life and that is very admirable. If singing is truly your goal in life, you have to be dedicated one hundred percent . brbrSinging lessons can be expensive, but with the right singing coach you can get a lot out of the the experience and will definitely help improve technique and sound.brbrI have been singing professionally for years. I started out doing the weekly mass at my church and it gave me exposure. Why dont you try becoming active in your church or choir to kind of get your foot in the door and give you practice singing in front of a crowd.brbrI have listened to your song on your youtube the one at the top of your page and in my oppinion there are a few things you can do to improve vocally. It sounds that you need to work on supporting your sound when your voice isnt being supported by your diaphram it can sound a little flat... with correct breathing and support this becomes easier, which can be corrected by a vocal coach. The nasal sound that you hear or others may hear can be either two things, the tone of your singing voice which isnt necessarily bad and can be part of your individuality or where you are projecting, which also can be helped with coaching. Try and think that you want your sound to come out of your forehead and not through your nose this also can go hand in hand with support, when your singing is supported correctly it is easier to be singing where you are supposed to in the facial aspect of singing. brbrTo me you have quality to your voice a naturally good singing sound and with work and dedication can absolutely become a great singing voice on broadway. You definitely have great potential and I can hear the broadway sound in you. Keep up the good work, and if this is really want you want to do in life, I think finding someone who is a professional vocal coach will be a step in the right direction. Good luck to you if you have anymore questions please email me! Take care!
